Modern Award Wage Changes – 1 July 2020

The recent National Wage Case Decision a 1.75% Change to Modern Award Wages. Due to the effects of COVID-19 implementation dates were staggered. The first group of wages increased from from 1 July 2020.

What Modern Awards are Affected?

Modern Awards with changes effective 1 July 2020 cover essential industries. These include:

  • Aged Care
  • Children Services
  • Cleaning Services
  • Educational Services
  • Health Professionals and Support Services
  • Nurses
  • Pharmacy Industry
  • Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services

Where to find the New Rates?

Employers should download the latest pay guide for their Modern Award. Pay Guides can be downloaded from – https://www.fairwork.gov.au/pay/minimum-wages/pay-guides

Once you have accessed the Pay guide, check your wages. If required, update your payroll systems accordingly.

Other changes

Retail Industry Employers – a further “step” in the reduction of Sunday Penalty Rates is effective 1 July 2020. The new pay guide can be downloaded from the above link.

Another change is to the coverage of the Miscellaneous Award. These changes mean more people may be covered by the Award. If you think you may be affected, contact us.
